Summary
Objective
Enable revenue growth. Transition Optical’s process darkens lenses when exposed to UV light.
Pivotal Insight
People shouldn’t have to pay (and wait) for lenses before they see the value of new lenses with their own eyes.
Essential Change
Design a store of the future with three goals in mind: sales, training, and product/service innovation.
Valued Outcome
The project helped spark Essilor’s acquisition of Transitions in 2014 for $1.75 billion.
Approach
The client supplied a project leader, subject matter experts, and a $500k budget within a 14-month timeline. Storyminers fielded retail, brand, and technology design expertise, built prototypes, and provided executive support.
The team helped demonstrate that entering retail with a leading-edge retail experience can sustainably boost sales and share, leading to a successful exit. We refined the brand strategy, programmed the store, designed the space, interfaces, and interactive fixtures, and specified the technical infrastructure and software, including immersive 3D video experiences. Deliverables included video summaries of field research, facilitated discussions and presentations, technical documentation, construction drawings, and live walkthroughs of the prototype store with interactive demos in place.
[Storyminers] developed experiences designed to turn heads, and the underlying capabilities our businesses needed to deliver them. I’d love to work with them again.
